Immigration Museum Excursion

Today we were historians in the city. We started our day at Birrarung Mar park where we learnt that before European settlement the land was were the Wurundjeri people lived. From here we walked along the Yarra River . We discussed why historically people settled on rivers or near water, we also talked about how around the river has changed and stayed the same over time. We then arrived at the Immigration Museum. At the museum we learnt that a powerful way to learn about history is through people’s stories.

Grade 3/4 what was something you learnt on our excursion and what was your favourite part of the excursion?

We are Historians!

This term we are learning to be historians. We had a ‘real life’ historian Dr Butler visit us yesterday. She taught us about how to interview people and to tell their story.

We have discovered that many artifacts can tell us about history but we can find out a lot more through people’s stories.

Grade 3/4 what is one thing you learnt from Dr Butler?
